ICDA's last tournament of the year, hosted at Harper College, is the team championship tournament.
Unlike previous tournaments, ICDA State is a highly selective tournament: a maximum of 14 debaters from each school are allowed to attend. Four of these debaters participate in championship chambers: four chambers dedicated to let the circuit's most elite debaters compete against one another. The remaining ten debaters compete in the tournament's invitational chambers. Regardless of which type of chamber it is, however, the competition is just as fierce as the others, as debaters compete to score one final victory before the season ends.
A few special events occur at the ICDA State awards ceremony. It is customary for both the captain of captains and a guest speaker to each give a speech regarding debate, the state of ICDA, and other topics of their choosing. During the awards ceremony, the oversight committee also announces the ICDA all-state team, the top 10 debaters as determined by the number of nominations received at the first four invitational tournaments.
The first-place sweepstakes winner at this tournament is crowned the ICDA champion.
